the nursery has a detailed learning curriculum, which for the under 3's is based on the 'Birth to three matters' framework. the frameworks takes as its focus the child and steers away from subjects, specific areas of experiance and distinct curriculum headings.
it identifies 4 aspects which celebrate the skill and competence of babies and young children and highlights the interrelationship between growth, learning, development and the enviroment in which they are cared for and educated.
these four aspects are;
- A Strong Child
- A Skilful Communicator
- A Competant Learner
- A Healthy Child
when your child gets older the nursery has a detailed learning curriculum for children over 3, which is based
on the 6 learning goals as outlined by the DFEE's 'Curriculum
Guidance for the Foundation Stage'. We particularly focus on
identifying children's individual needs. The under 3's curriculum
The six areas of learning are as follows; -

The under two's unit is a newly developed unit opened in July 06, it has been specifically designed to cater for children under 2 years old. it can take up to 12 children and has 4 full time staff members. all children follow their individual play plans and have their own individual routines.
the unit has a seperate devide of sleep / rest area to ensure that individual sleep patterns are catered for, cots and toddler beds are provided for all children with their individual bedding.
the main play area has a carpet area for younger babies to safely play and move around. the children have many facilities for the children to move around exploring their enviroment, having access to small world toys, construction toys, natural holistic play equipment, books puzzles, soft tumble toys and an outside area with sand, trikes and push and pull toys.
the older childrren can get messy and creative with the sectioned of kitchen area where they can paint and have messy activities like oblique, play dough and sticky play.
the group follows the guidlines as outlined in the birth to three matters framework and sets out clear learning oppertunities for each child.
The 2 - 3 area can take up to 12 children and has 3 main
full time staff. The staff and children follow a daily routine
in which the children are provided with a caring, fun, relaxing
and stimulating environment. The routine consists of small group
time, free play and guided play opportunities, plenty of personal
and social learning opportunities and the basic foundations
for the birth to three matters and working towards the early learning goals.
The room is divided up into different defined areas, home corner,
book area, and tabletops for construction, small world and puzzles.
A drawing/ busy table, floor carpet area for large construction,
my world play e.g. trains/cars. And a messy area for sand water
and the painting easel. The children are encouraged to use self-help
skills by choosing toys and equipment to play with. Once the
children have developed good personal, social and emotional
skills we aim for them then to prepare for learning intentions
with the six learning goals.
The large group are offered small group time where the are split
up into 3 groups, one with each key worker, this enable the
children to work at there own pace alongside their peers.
Close links are formed with the parents, toilet training, learning
to share and learning about our environment are particularly
important at this stage and parents are positively involved
with these programmes.
When the children are becoming ready to move into the older
age range a programme is prepared to meet that child and to
prepare them for a more structured environment.

The 3 - 5 area can take up to 14 children and has 2 main full
time staff. The staff and children follow a daily routine, which
is structured to provide the children to have a fun, relaxing
and stimulating learning experience.
The routine ensures that the children are continuingly learning
through their structured day. The children's day consists of
registration, story and group time, small group curriculum time,
snack, lunch and tea, free play and one to one guided time.
During the free playtime, the room is set up in specific areas,
which relate to the early learning goals. E.g. creative, mathematical'
language table along with book area, imaginative area, sand
and water, a magnetic board, computer, easel and interest tables.
These are all available throughout the day.
The children have opportunities to have one to one sessions
with their key workers on regular basis, this time is used to
focus on individual targets which have been identified by observations,
monitoring and using the children's personal passports and recognition
sheets. The nursery likes to promote independent learning and
encourages children to think for themselves, taking responsibilities
and helping their friends, we do this through self-registration,
helper badges and guided play.
All the nursery activities are planned, supported and expended
for each child's individual needs and their progress is monitored.
We aim for the children in the 3 - 5 area to be happy and confident
when playing and taking part in activities. The practitioners
are positive role models who provide a stimulating learning
environment in which the children learn.

At some time in every child's time they will require
some difficulty with either behaviour or learning. At this time
additional support may be required to assist the child in their
particular needs. We at St George's believe in treating children
as individual and providing for their specific needs, by providing
them with regular reviews, assessments and observations. A copy
of the nursery's Special Educational needs policy is available
from the nursery on request. The nursery has a designated SENCO
and has close links with outside agencies. E.g. speech therapists.

Boundaries of acceptable behaviour need to be established
for a clear reason and explained to the child. Behaviour will
be managed by the giving of praise and encouragement to help
succeed and want to behave in an acceptable way. When making
judgments it is recognized that what constitutes 'acceptable'
behaviour or 'good manners' may differ in other cultures.
The nursery believes in focussing on positive behaviour, consistency
and continuity. A copy of the nurseries behaviour management
policy is available on request.

St George's Day Nursery staff work closely with parents in partnership.
To ensure this staff will discuss with parents their individual
child's progress on a daily basis. We stress to staff that it
is their friendly contact and communication with parents, which
is essential to the happy atmosphere of the nursery.
Parents must feel they are able to visit the nursery throughout
the day. The nursery staff will make them feel welcome at all
times. We will endeavour to ensure that we can accommodate any
particular wishes parents may have for their child. All records
kept on the children are always available for parents to see.
The parents are able to discuss on a daily basis their child's
progress, both verbally and through their daily contact books.
Other means of parental access to information are available
through regular newsletters, parents evenings twice a year,
questionnaires and various reports available for parents.
The nursery manager is always available to discuss matters relating
to any individual child or indeed issues relating to nursery
both on a formal and informal basis.
Parents can request a meeting with either their key worker or
a more senior member of staff at any time that is convenient
to both parties. The discussion that takes place will be treated
completely confidentially and all parties will agree any further
action if appropriate.
St George's believe that working in partnership with parents
is paramount for the happiness and well being of the child.

by recording times in the attendance book. If anyone else is
to collect your child they must be listed on the collection

the nursery. If we do not know the person collecting please
provide us with a description and a photograph.
If we do not know the person who has turned up to collect your

The nursery has a uniform of sweatshirts and tshirts with the nursery logo. All new parents are issued with a free t shirt and a nursery bag and with the option of ordering more uniform. We suggest that
children wear comfortable and suitable clothing' and we recommend
that children do not wear their best clothes as paints and messy
activities are accessible daily. Any removable clothing should
be labelled clearly with the child's name e.g. hats coats gloves
etc. A coat is required daily as children regularly go out to
play.

We request that parents keep their children at home if they
are feeling unwell. If your child has an infectious illness
we have a duty to inform other parents within 24 hours or as
soon as possible, parents will be required to keep their children
at home for the period of time as outlines in the infectious
illness guidelines. If a child has been prescribed antibiotics
we recommend that they be excluded from nursery for 48 hours
to allow time for the antibiotics to work.
Other medications that are prescribed by the doctor can be administrated
by one of our first aiders, parents will be required to sign
for this in the medicine book. Written instructions must be
given for the use of regular medications such as inhalers for
asthmatic children. A more detailed policy is available on request.
Unfortunately no fees will be refunded due to days taken of
due to illness.
